Communications Chair

The Communications Chair is a member of the Troop Committee responsible for mass communication and publicity (strategy and implementation). This includes publicity directed to troop members, to prospective troop members, to others in our church, and to the public at-large. The Communications Chair isn't responsible for rountine communication to the troop members, e.g. meeting reminders and announcements. These are handled by other members of the troop leadership as needed.

The Communications Chair should be comfortable with coordinating content generation efforts of multiple volunteers as well with creating turnkey content personally (photography, writing, editing).

This position is our troop’s implementation of the “Public Relations Chair” referred to in Trail Life USA documentation.

Qualifications

  • Christian age 21 or older
  • Registered Adult (or eligible to be registered)
  • Agree to the Shepherd's Church Volunteer Covenant and qualified for service.
  • Membership or regular attendance at Shepherd’s Church strongly encouraged.

Core Duties

  • Manage content on social media and public website platforms.
  • Interact with media regarding newsworthy activities of the troop.
  • In cooperation with the membership team, develop new member recruitment initiatives.
  • Coordinate the collection and culling of photographs from events.

Additional Responsibilities

  • As a member of the troop leadership, pay active attention to troop business and be able to accurately and thoughtfully represent the troop to others in the church and community.
  • Ensure content shared to the public reflects troop values and is consistent with our privacy policies.
  • Complete Peak 1 and Peak 2 trainings during first year of service.

Timing of Duties

  • There are not weekly duties at the troop meetings for the Communications Chair.
  • The Communications Chair will have the need to regularly complete tasks in a timely fashion outside of troop meetings.
  • The Communications Chair is encouraged to attend campouts and activities to inform a practical understanding of the ministry's operations.
