Core 5: Teamwork

Devotional - Teamwork

Opening

  • We learned today the importance of teamwork, now let’s see what the Bible says about it.
  • Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Devotional

Big picture: Life is easier when we work together, and we learn Godly lessons along the way.

  • Q: Who is your favorite sports team? And why is it your favorite?
  • We all have favorite teams, but God’s favorite team is the Body of Christ.
  • Q: Does anyone know who the Body of Christ is? It’s all Christians working together for God’s glory.
  • The Bible talks a lot about the Body of Christ, and that we should work together in harmony, as one.
  • The teaching verse reminds us that when we work together, we can get much more work done AND many other good things happen, such as:
    • Teamwork encourages everyone on the team.
    • Teamwork shows you respect others by helping them or being helped.
    • Teamwork makes doing difficult things more enjoyable.
    • Working as a team makes the time fly by.
    • God is glorified by working with others. The Holy Spirit is magnified in cooperation.
    • When we work with others, they get to see our faith in action by how we work.
    • Most opportunities to share our faith happen when we are on a team.
    • Teamwork cultivates and conserves the resources God has given us by being a good steward.
  • So, teamwork and cooperation are truly wise choices, and we all want to be wise. This is an easy choice
  • However, we need to be cheerful workers, not grumpy, grumblers. That is NOT wise or pleasing to God
  • Q: What does the strong 3 stranded cord mean in the teaching verse? (read verse again)
  • It means the holy Trinity: Father, Son and Spirit. You must have those 3 to be strong.
  • We not only need each other (two are better than one), but we need God (the cord) to be truly strong.
  • God is pleased when we cheerfully share with others, like in cooperative teamwork.
  • But…we cannot earn God’s love this way…because… He loves us completely already.
  • Teamwork is about us coming closer to God by maturing as a Christian, not about getting more love.

Memory Verse #5

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home. Note: we are moving to verse #5.

Proverbs 30:5: Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

Topical Questions

  1. Have any of you ever played a team sport? If so, what was it?

  2. Could you have played that sport without your teammates? No!

  3. Who were Jesus’ teammates? (Hint: 12 of them)

  4. Who is the best teammate? God will never leave you or let you down, he is the best teammate…ever!

Closing Prayer

Father God, You love us and want everyone on earth to be a part of Your team. Who are we that You would want us on Your team? We are nothing without You and have everything with You. But yet, You still love us beyond our wildest imagination. You choose us first every time. Thank you so much God for loving us so much. We are thankful and we love you God for who you are. The perfect teammate!
