Elective 10: Wisdom

Devotional – Wisdom

Opening

  • We learned today about living wisely not foolishly, now let’s see what the bible says about wisdom.
  • Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

Proverbs 3:19-20 By wisdom the Lord laid the earth’s foundations, by understanding He set the heavens in place; by His knowledge the watery depths were divided, and clouds let drop the dew.

Devotional

Big picture Wisdom isn’t just doing what is right, it is the foundation of all God’s creation.

  • Q: At the beginning of Genesis, how did God describe all creation when He completed it? (very good)
  • And the Proverbs teaching verse says God’s creation was made by wisdom.
  • So, wisdom is more than just about you living wisely. Much more. Wisdom is all around us in God’s creation. Wisdom is the foundation of all God has created.
  • But we tend to think about wisdom as just, a human race thing, about us, about wise or foolish people.
  • Whereas God sees wisdom as tying all His CREATION and FAMILY together into something VERY GOOD! Can you see God creating something foolish? Then it would NOT be Good would it? (No)
  • All God’s CREATION works together so wonderfully because it is all filled with God’s wisdom, understanding and knowledge (see Proverbs teaching verse). Perfection!
  • We must align ourselves with God’s wisdom to live harmoniously in His creation. Otherwise, we create chaos. We are not perfect. But wisdom bestows well-being. For you to live well, you need to be wise.
  • That’s some pretty deep stuff to think about, but maybe this question will help you understand.
  • Where do you see wisdom in God’s CREATION and FAMILY?
    • God made us Male & Female (to multiply and rule the earth).
    • Human Body (mind, soul, heart, eyes, fingers, toes, bones, cells, nerves, endocrine system, etc)
    • Four Seasons (Rest, Growth, Abundance, Decay: Repeat). Day & Night (Work & Rest)
    • Water (Replenish the earth, teaming with life). Air to breath. Photosynthesis.
    • Sun (Not to hot not too cold), Moon (Regulates tides, gravity)
    • Solar System (Protects earth from meteors & holds together all the planets). Earth could not sustain life if located anywhere else in solar system.
    • The Heavens (Solar system is protected in its location in the Universe from Blackholes, supernovas).
  • Seek in prayer that God reveals to you the wisdom in his creation.

Memory Verse #3

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home.

Matthew 22:37-39 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

Topical Questions

  1. What is example of God’s wisdom you have observed in creation (the natural world)?

  2. Read & Discuss Proverbs 2:6-7. It totally ties into what we are talking about today.

  3. Read & Discuss Proverbs 24:3-5. Another great topic example.

  4. Reread Proverbs 24:3-5, but discuss: House=Creation, Rooms=Earth, (Wise men in a Wise creation)

Closing Prayer

Father God, the heavens declare Your glory, and the earth and everything in it is magnificent perfection. Thank you for creating such a perfect place for us. You must love us because the earth and all creation is so amazing. Help us to remember how wisdom ties all creation together through You. Behold! Wisdom is on display right outside our door. Help us to understand our part in it. In Jesus we pray, Amen!
