Core 1: Know Your Environment

Devotional – Creation

Opening

  • Today we learned a lot about God’s creation, now let’s see what the bible says about created things.
  • Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

Genesis 1:24 And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.

Devotional

Big picture God created the process of how creatures populate the Earth, that process shows God provides for all things.

  • Q: Have any of you seen a building being constructed? What gets constructed first?
  • First you need a foundation in the ground to build a steel framework on it of beams and columns.
  • Then, you can build the floors and walls attached to the building steel framework.
  • Just like construction has a step-by-step process, so also God created a step-by-step process for constructing the Earth in seven days.
  • Part of God’s creation process was filling the Earth full of living creatures including men.
  • God created the process of how all creatures populate the Earth.
  • The teaching verse says, “let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds.”
  • The teaching verse tells us several things about God’s plan for the Earth:
    • Life on Earth would be self-sustaining. That means the Earth would continue to populate itself. Just look at your family tree as an example of that process. One generation creates the next generation, and the next, and the next, until the end of this age.
    • This process of populating the Earth applies to all living creatures. God just didn't stop creating at Genesis. He set in place a process whereby new life is continually being born.
    • New life would be created here on Earth according to its kind. What this means is, for example, horses do not give birth to alligators, horses have baby horses, only alligators have baby alligators, and so on, and so on, each “according to their kinds.”
  • Maybe you never thought about it quite in this way but think about how crazy mixed up this world would be if flies made people, or worms made rhinoceros. That seems crazy, but we take for granted how this world works, and that God made this process of populating the Earth way back in Genesis.
  • So, God provides for us by creating men according to their kind. There are no other kind like man on Earth nor will there ever be, but He also provides for all living creatures the same loving way.

Memory Verse #1

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home.

Ephesians 6:13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.

Topical Questions

  1. In Genesis, did God create Adam and Eve before He created animals or after them? Why?

  2. In Genesis, did God create plants before animals or after them? Why?

  3. God populated the world according to their kinds because He knows what is best. Do you see why chaos is not good?

Closing Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father, we give You thanks for creating all creatures great and small according to their kinds. We may not understand everything about Your creation, but we trust You that You know what is best for us. You created man in Your imagine unlike any other creature. You set us apart from all creation to rule over it. Help us to be good stewards of Your creation by knowing our environment wherever we may choose to live! In Your son Jesus’s name, we pray. Amen!
