Core 2: Science in Weather

Devotional – Weather

Opening

  • We learned a lot today about the science of weather, now let’s see what God has to say about weather.
  • Read, or someone read the Teaching verse. FYI: The memory verse is further down

Leviticus 26:3&4 If you follow my decrees, and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit.

Devotional

Big picture God created the weather.

  • We are going to do something different today in our devotional time. We are going to read a few bible verses and then talk about them. These verses are about God and about the weather.
  • I want you to listen carefully as we read these verses. Pay attention. So, we can talk about them.
  • The verses are Job 36:26-31. We will read them twice. Read 2X, Slowly, with emphasis.
  • Q: Ok, now what thoughts came to your mind as we read these verses about God and the weather?
    • v.26: (Discuss - God is beyond our understanding: infinite, all powerful, all knowing, all seeing, and NOT created, He existed before creation began, No one created God, but He created everything).
    • v.27: (Discuss - God created the weather. And weather is not random chance. God uses the weather in His plans (Note: He “draws up” or designed the drops). And weather is a beautiful system like all creation is beautifully designed (Note: drops-rain-streams).
    • v.28: (Discuss – Weather is a blessing to all creation. God brings just the right amount of rain so things grow. He nourishes all creation including mankind. We should thank God every day for His blessings of weather on the earth.)
    • v.29: (Discuss – No one fully understands how weather works. Only God knows. We are not God. God in his grace and mercy allowed us to understand some things about weather, like we learned today about red skies, etc. But we don’t know much about creation and never will. We are not God. But that’s ok, because we trust God will take care of us, if we obey Him!)
    • v.30: (Discuss - God is in control, even lightning obeys His commands).
    • v.31: (Discuss – Weather is one way God governs His creation. Nations are blessed or cursed by too much or too little weather. Famines & starvation, abundance & strength are related to weather in God’s economy).
  • God knows the weather. He provides all we need because He loves us so much! But, we must obey Him to be blessed by Him.

Memory Verse #3

Ask if anybody knows it yet and can say it? Read it together 2X. Consider having a memory verse pamphlet for kids take home.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill His promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

Topical Questions

  1. In Genesis, God created the earth and everything in it. Is it any wonder that God knows the weather?

  2. If we know so much about the weather, why are weather forecasts often wrong?

  3. Think about how perfect the earth is. Not too hot, not too cold, not too stormy. Are you thankful?

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, O most high, how majestic is Your name in all the earth! When we consider the heavens, the work of Your fingers we stand in awe. For You made the heavens and the earth. Yet, You do not stand far off and hide Yourself from us. Thank You for loving us so much that You provide a wonderful world for us to live in. In Your Son Jesus Christ’s name, we give You praise. Amen!
